SWE 3B: Advanced
Class Description
In this second quarter of the third-year series, we'll be looking at themes of emotions and personal qualities, behavior at funerals, going on a skiing vacation, buying a house in Sweden, and a typical Swedish celebratory birthday party. Essay topics include Uppsala and Lund, Three Provices in Western Svealand and Northern Sweden, and Europe's largest national park. We'll also look at various ways to use adjectives, and separable/inseparable-prefix verbs, while also having many opportunities for conversation. Covers the whole text. Class is taught mostly in Swedish. Prerequisite: Two years of Swedish or equivalent. Please purchase textbook before class begins. TEXT- Swedish: Becoming Fluent Step Two https://www.blurb.com/b/9482944-swedish-becoming-fluent-step-two FOR WA STATE RESIDENTS: Please be aware that as of Oct 1, 2025, the state of Washington is imposing sales tax on all classes over 1 person except for K-12 and University/College classes. This is true for online classes and in-person classes, non-profit and for-profit organizations, educational and recreational purposes. It includes the 2-person ballet class your 5 and 7-year old kids are taking, the cooking classes you and your partner sign up for at the local PCC, and the self-defense course your niece teaches online. Of course, it also includes online and in-person language classes offered by non-profits like SLI. Last quarter, because the new law was sprung right in the middle of our registration period and without much notice, SLI decided to pay the sales tax for the students, but we will regrettably not be able to continue this practice in 2026. The sales tax at this point is 6.5% + local tax (wherever in WA you live). This amount be added at checkout. :( sorry ):

LATE ENROLLMENT Students may join classes any time between the 1st and 3rd weeks by paying full tuition. Contact SLI if you are enrolling late. STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM OR CHANGING CLASSES If a student wants to leave a class, there are 4 possibilities open to them: 1) Move to another class (available up to and including the 2nd class day) 2) Receive a tuition credit from SLI, prorated if applicable (always available). 3) Receive a full or partial refund, as described below (available up to and including the 2nd class day). 4) Donate the tuition to SLI (always available). DETAILS (to implement any of these options, please call 425-773-5370 or write to admin@scanlang.org) 1) Move to another class. You may move to a different class (even to a different language!) up to (and including) the 3rd class as long as the instructor of your new class agrees. After the 3rd class, this option is no longer available. Moving to Another Class: Tuition Differences. If the New Course costs MORE: the student will pay the difference between the amounts. If the New Course costs LESS: SLI will apply the difference to a future class, issue a refund for it, or the student can donate it to SLI. 2) Apply the tuition to a later class. You may request that SLI keep your tuition and apply it toward another class in the future. When you take the later class, please do not book online. Instead, contact SLI and tell us which class you want to apply your credit to. 3) Receive a refund. Contact SLI for a refund before the 3rd class day to completely withdraw from a class, and you will be issued a full refund minus a minimal processing fee (i.e. you will have 2 weeks/classes to decide whether you want to stay or withdraw). 4) Donate. If you wish to donate the money to SLI, let us know and we will issue you a receipt. Remember that donations are tax-deductible. We thank you! COURSE CANCELLATION This will occur if enrollment is too low. We will notify you, and you can decide which option you want. No processing fees will be withheld - you get back what all of what you paid.
