DAN 1A: Beginning
Class Description
This course is especially for absolute beginners. We will begin by easing into Danish pronunciation and how it relates to spelling (in surprising ways!). We'll practice with dialogues and "question/answer" activities. Themes include greetings, biographical info and languages, classroom vocabulary, school/work, and transportation. We'll take a look at some of the grammar basics, and you'll get tips about expressing politeness in a language that has no one word for "please" but a million ways to say thank you! The textbook will be ordered for you and then sent to you by the instructor. By buying textbooks in "bulk" the price is reduced (publishing houses charge the same shipping fee if you buy 1, 10, or 30 books at a time). The price, including all shipping, is $65 and will be used for the entire series (Dan 1A - Dan 1B - Dan 1C) and possibly beyond. This is in addition to the course fee. The accompanying audio files can be found at www.synope.dk and are available for free. Books can be pre-ordered at the Let's Dansk Little Shop:

LATE ENROLLMENT Students may join classes any time between the 1st and 3rd weeks by paying full tuition. If you have any problem enrolling online, contact SLI (admin@scanlang.org; Ph 425-773-5370) CANCELLING: Students can cancel their enrollment online up to 24 hours before the class begins. After that, their options are as follows below. STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM OR CHANGING CLASSES If a student wants to leave a class, there are 4 possibilities open to them: 1) Move to another class (available up to and including the 3rd class day) 2) Receive a tuition credit from SLI, prorated if applicable. 3) Receive a full or partial refund, as described below (available up to and including the 2nd class day). 4) Donate the tuition to SLI (always available). DETAILS (to implement any of these options, please call 425-773-5370 or write to admin@scanlang.org) 1) Move to another class. You may move to a different class (even to a different language!) up to (and including) the 3rd class as long as the instructor of your new class agrees. After the 3rd class, this option is no longer available. Moving to Another Class: Tuition Differences. If the New Course costs MORE: the student will pay the difference between the amounts. If the New Course costs LESS: SLI will apply the difference to a future class, issue a refund for it, or the student can donate it to SLI. 2) Apply the tuition to a later class. You may request that SLI keep your tuition and apply it toward another class in the future. When you take the later class, please do not book online. Instead, contact SLI and tell us which class you want to apply your credit to. 3) Receive a refund. Contact SLI for a refund before (but NOT including) the 3rd class day to completely withdraw from a class, and you will be issued a full refund minus a minimal processing fee (i.e. you will have 2 classes to decide whether you want to stay or withdraw). 4) Donate. If you wish to donate the money to SLI, let us know and we will issue you a receipt. Remember that donations are tax-deductible. We thank you! COURSE CANCELLATION This will occur if enrollment is too low. We will notify you, and you can decide which option you want. No processing fees will be withheld - you get back all of what you paid.
